Getting out and enjoying fun activities together is an important part of family life that builds closeness and creates shared memories. For parents, it can be a challenge finding places to that will be fun for you and your whole family. In today’s blog, we take a look at some San Diego weekend adventure ideas.

Balboa Island

Balboa Island has all the ingredients you need for a fantastic San Diego weekend adventure.  Since it is about one and a half hours from San Diego, it allows the feeling of getting away while still being close enough to make a day trip out of it.  The island features parasailing for up to three people at a time with USCG-licensed captains who follow WSIA best practices. There is also a surf camp with lessons for all ages. They provide all the gear you need and while they specialize in beginners, their instructors are also able to teach the latest tricks. Carlsbad Flower Fields

Carlsbad Ranch is home to one of the most beautiful flower fields in California. However, what makes this a great San Diego weekend adventure are all the family-friendly activities available on the grounds.  They have antique tractor wagon rides through the fields with a staff member providing a history of the fields themselves.  At the Carlsbad Mining Camp, you and your kids can pan for precious gems like the miners of old and take home what you find.  There is also the Sweet Pea Maze which is a fragrant and colorful living maze that is fun for all ages. Belmont Park

If you have smaller children who may not tolerate a longer car ride, Belmont Park is the San Diego weekend adventure for you.  This beachfront amusement park is free admission and parking with a pay-as-you-play system for rides and attractions.  In addition to the usual rollercoasters and rides you find at most amusement parks, Belmont Park features some unique attractions. They have rock climbing walls including a speed wall, a laser maze, a ropes course, and wave riding attractions such as FlowBarrel and FlowRider. LEGOLAND

Located just 30 minutes north of the city, LEGOLAND California Resort is another great option for a short-distance San Diego weekend adventure. The resort features an amusement park, water park, and massive aquarium.  The amusement park is divided into various lands based around some of the most popular LEGO product lines.  Each land is equipped with rides, attractions, and everything else you would expect from a theme park.  The water park has plenty of fun slides, pools, sprayers, and other attractions including the Build a Raft River and Imagination Station. With so much to explore, there is sure to be something for everyone in the family no matter their age.
