Outdoor San Diego Holiday Activities

With Thanksgiving in our rear-view, the winter season is upon us. As the days grow shorter, many families begin to gravitate to the cozy comforts inside their homes. However, just because it’s not as light or as warm outside doesn’t mean you have to spend all your time inside. In fact, there are a ton of things to do during the winter in San Diego, especially during the holiday season. Check out some of favorite San Diego holiday activities below.

Holiday in the Park

The Old Town State Park is a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike for its rich history as well as its unique dining and shopping opportunities. What you may not have been aware of is the fact that the park transforms each year during the first part of December making it one of our most try San Diego holiday activities. The annual Holiday in the Park features beautiful decorations along the entire area, free-roaming carolers singing holiday favorites, and even some special holiday treats at the merchants in the park. This year, the transformation will be active from December 2nd through the 17th.

San Diego Parade of Lights

Certainly one of the most unique of all San Diego holiday activities is the annual Parade of Lights. Highly decorated boats serve as the main attraction to this event as they parade their way along the San Diego Bay. It is certainly a festive atmosphere as the pass along Shelter Island, Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village, and Coronado’s Ferry Landing. This year the parades will be taking place on December 10th, and 17th at 5 pm so don’t miss your chance to see all the lights.

Jungle Bells

Who doesn’t love the world-famous San Diego Zoo? Well during the holidays, it becomes even more spectacular with twinkle lights, animal sculptures, acrobatic elf performances, and the addition of Santa’s igloo. You can also enjoy some holiday-themed enrichment play including a raccoon opening a Christmas present. Then cap off the fun-filled day with the Zoo’s Celebration of Lights tree lighting ceremony complete with seasonal music. Jungle Bells is definitely one of our favorite all day San Diego holiday activities and runs from December 8th through January 1st.
